T212 Portfolio update £185k 16/10/2026 - £15k down!
A very bad week for all stocks, especially Tech stocks this week! Gold and metals showed a sign of recovery this week but were still down over the whole week.
I think (hope) the market will recover next week. This is not a bubble popping. The demand for AI is strong and I expect many businesses to start announcing higher annual profits next year due to the use of AI and a reduction of their workforce for 'greater efficiencies'. I especially expect +10% increase in companies involved in retail, finance, manufacturing and healthcare. As more AI data centers get connected (plugged in to power), I expect share prices of Tech companies to pick up again.

Choosing your main portfolio's core ETF
Most investors have a main central core ETF plus 1-6 other ETFs as satellite holdings. They then may have 5-10% of their holdings in other more risky shares such as single companies.
In a taxable GIA account, it is best to stick to that one core ETF and keep adding into it as well as your satellite ETFs. Performance over the long term is key. Also the TER should be as low as possible too.
For an ISA, you might choose an accumulating ETF, but for a GIA you probably want to choose a distributing ETF because this usually means they have zero ERI and you won't need to calculate ERI every year when you fill in your HMRC self-assessment tax form.
Here are a few world ETFs you might like to consider...

Sector and Thematic Investing with ETFs
President Trump has managed to complicate the world economy. International trade has been hampered by tariffs and restricted passage. Executive orders have distorted the economy by lighting a fire under some companies and extinguishing others! Oil prices have rocketed, inflation, interest rates and bond yields have risen and yet gold has not. Some companies are trading at way over 100 P/E (TSLA x340, AMD x160) while others are valued at less than x20 P/E (Micron, Cisco, IBM).
It is difficult to know where to invest and how to invest safely!
Sector Investing vs. Thematic Investing
Thematic investing is often confused with sector investing, but there are some key differences. Sector investing puts investment funds into specific segments of the economy. Popular segments include energy, healthcare and information technology. Thematic investing is different; it uses broader technological advances to improve output spanning across multiple sectors. Popular themes include clean energy and robotics.

Top funds/ETFs - can I stick to my new plan?
After spending several years having fun chasing stocks which I hope will show me a nice profit, I have found it to be quite a challenging experience.
Across my Trading 212 ISA+GIA accounts I have 85 different holdings. This is becoming more and more difficult to keep track of. The problem is that in several cases, I have found that I should have sold earlier but I missed the declining price movement amongst all the other price movements of all the other holdings. I know 85 is way too many but I just can't help myself!
