In just a matter of a just few more hours, with the help of ChatGPT and Codex, I have made a Capital Gains calculator page which accepts T212, Barclays, Interactive Investor and some other formats.
It has a 'Test' button if you want to try it quickly on a few trades.
It should give the same results as the cgtcalculator.com or the UK Tax calculator sites. I have tested it on T212, ii and Barclays .csv files. It also works on pasted or loaded trades text which are in the cgtcalculator.com format. I have not tested it much on the other broker formats as I don't have any current .csv download files.
This makes calculating Capital Gains much easier, especially if you use more than one broker.
- Go to each broker site and download the GIA trades/orders transaction files for all years and all trades.
- For Barclays, you will need to load the .xls file into Excel and Save as .csv.
- Now in UKCG, simply select all the .csv files (e.g. three T212 csv + two ii csv + Barclays csv) and click Calculate. Set the tax year you are interested in.
- Scroll down for details, inc. each disposal.
- Click the button to save the HMRC report to a file, then load that file into Word, save as a PDF file and attach to your tax return.
Check any errors or warnings in the Calculations box. There are often errors (esp. if you have missing trades) e.g. stocks may have changed their name or there was a stock split, etc.
Unsupported formats?
If you find this useful, but you want it to support your brokers csv files, please contact me and send me a sample raw downloaded cvs file (not changed in any way). I will try to add in support for your broker.
ERI
Note that this calculator does not take into account Excess Reportable Income. If you are a basic rate tax payer and don't have £10,000s in Accumulating ETFs in your GIA, you probably don't need to worry about ERI, otherwise you can try UK Tax calculator which tries to include ERI or just give all your .csv files to your accountant!
