I asked ChatGPT 4 which of my stocks to sell!

ChatGPT can be sent files and asked to comment on them, so I uploaded my Trading 212 Account Statement for July 2025 and asked it to identify the stinkers!

I then asked it to identify which ones to sell...

It then asked if I would like a sell recommendation

LIDR and OKLO were chosen because they were speculative, so I am keeping those. BOWL is underrated and is a longer term hold for me. SGRO was chosen for diversification purposes and I was well aware of commercial real estate weakness which is why I hope I have picked it up cheaply and it will improve in a year or so.

This leaves us with HIVE, HOOD and ARM.

HOOD is showing me a gain today and I intend to hold.

So this leaves ARM and HIVE. I have no good reason to hold these. ARM does not look good and HIVE was a gamble. I asked ChatGPT to compare  ARM, HIVE and OKLO and tell me the least promising...

and what if I sold it...

It is a nice touch that it even tells me that HIVE is in my ISA account and not my Investment account :-)

Now let us see what it thinks I should buy instead...

It picked EQGB (it wrongly identified it as EQQQ) - not bad as my 'safer' pick would have been either EQGB or XLKQ. It's choice of SMGB (semiconductors) is rather weird though...

Conclusions

I am pretty impressed! It has helped me to identify which stocks to trim. The shares in my ISA are the more volatile ones which I buy to short trade so as not to use up my Capital gains Tax allowance when I sell them for a profit. I expect some losses within my ISA account especially on single company trades. I try to hold longer term index ETFs inside my Invest GIA account.

HIVE is showing a slight uptrend at the moment, possibly due to Trump's crypto bill being passed, so I will watch it closely.

Finally, I asked ChatGPT to pick a large index tracker ETF and a tech ETF from my portfolio...

It chose PSRU (but said it was an S&P 500 tracker !!! - it is actually a Invesco FTSE 100 RAFI ETF tracker) and EQGB.

I pointed this mistake out to ChatGPT and it gave me a revised suggestion:

So SWDA+EQGB  (I actually prefer HMWS+EQGB which is identical but HMWS has a lower TER).

I asked if PSRU was also a good choice for a UK investor, and it replied by suggesting three ETFs...

Again, a sensible choice for a UK investor who wanted a simple investment structure for the long term. I would actually use HMWS+EQGB+PSRU (50/30/20).

ChatGPT can be useful but you have to be very careful to analyse the answers and correct it when it has misunderstood or made a mistake.

If you are already knowledgeable then it's great. If you have little knowledge or expertise in the area, then beware!
