Deposit Age 12 Sept. 19 Sept. Result (IRR since start)
£20,000 6mnths £24,700 £25,083 +£383 (26% - 20k lump sum)
£70,000 14mnths £76,474 £78,574 +£2100 (39% - DCA in chunks - 26k added in Aug. )
Overall gain this week £2483.
I sold £2.3k of HIVE as it seemed to be stagnating after a 60% rise in the last month, and I topped up on SOFI and OKLO.
Note: I actually sold OKLO for £700 (£200 gain on £500) and SOFI (£261gain in £1440) and HIVE (£400 gain) late on Friday as it looked like they were about to dip and I was frightened of losing all my profit, but soon after that the price on OKLO and SOFI went up again and so I quickly rebought OKLO and SOFI back again. As I bought at a slightly cheaper price, I didn't lose much by selling and rebuying.
The £139 gain was just the gain after buying on Friday 6pm BST - i.e. 3.5 hrs! |
USD Currency Hedging Experiment
This experiment was devised to see how currency hedged ETFs would perform in the real world because I found that different websites gave different charts and performance figures and it was very hard to know which was best in real folding money UK £GBP notes at the end of the day.
The USD/GBP exchange rate this year has shown that the weak dollar fell by 9% against the £ and that the FTSE actually outperformed the S&P 500. However, projections show the USD should begin to strengthen after Q4 2025 if not sooner. This means unhedged US company shares should have a slight edge.
My plan is to switch back to unhedged ETFs such as EQQQ rather than EQGB. Also, it may soon be better to sell FTSE ETFs and buy world or US-rich ETFs with the money.
It seems that the unhedged ETFs are winning just at the moment, presumably because the dollar has strengthened in the last few days (£50 each was invested):
The NASDAQ 100 has always been one of my favourite long-term ETFs. EQQQ and RAFI also paid a dividend this week.
Tips
OKLO and SOFI still seem to be strong but I will not buy any more just yet.
Here are some highlights of the week:
DAGB Crypto and Blockchain went up 10% in the week.
UNH United Health went down 5% in the week but may be due for a recovery next week.
NCLP Uranium and Nuclear went up 13% in the week but has now flattened off.
DMAG Disruptive Metals ETF is still nicely going up
BITF Bitfarms went up 39% but dipped on Friday. I bought in late and am down 4% with £1k but I am holding for now.
NOVO Novo Nordisk went up 11% and seems to have peaked.
MP MP Materials went up 16% last week and still seems strong.
IONQ Ioniq went up 26% last week and seems strong.
NUCG Nuclear and Uranium also went up 13.5% (T212 Invest account), Tesla was up 7%, Fresnillo (FRES) up 5% and Coeur Mining (CDE) up 12%.
I will be watching BITF carefully (may sell to cut losses) and IONQ, MP, DMAG, OKLO and SOFI are all candidates for buys next week.
Losers
I am showing red on the following:
ARM (-11%), Lundin Gold (-9%), Boom (-4.5%), MANO Manolete Partners (-14%), BOWL (-9.5%) plus some others. In total all red shares add up to a loss of -£200 which is not bad on a £90k portfolio of over 90 holdings.
Netflix
Netflix has not done much recently, but it has recently announced a new Ad deal with Amazon.
- Netflix announced a partnership with Amazon last week that will allow Amazon's DSP clients to reach the streamer's nearly 100 million ad-tier clients.
- DSPs, or Demand-Side Platforms, enable advertisers to access proprietary data on viewing habits, which helps tailor ad campaigns.
- Netflix reported strong earnings in 2025, and this new revenue stream could be the catalyst for a rally to the end of the year.
This may indicate Netflix is a buy. With the increase in the cost of living, Winter and Christmas approaching, Netflix Q3 and Q4 results should be good. We could see a 10% rise soon.
