E2B 1.69Beta3 now available

E2B v1.69Beta2 contained some embedded Microsoft boot files in the NTBOOT files such as bootmgr, ntdtect and ntldr. It also appears that VBOOT is a commercial product of VMLite and so cannot be distributed. These have now been removed in Beta3 for legal\copyright reasons.

This means that the NT5 NTBOOT functions are not supported (e.g. XP PE1, NT5 and VBOOT booting).

However, if you use the Make_E2B_USB_Drive.cmd or Update_E2B_Drive.cmd batch files on a Windows 7/8/10 system, it will try to copy over the system's bootmgr file to the E2B drive for you.
If you don't use these scripts or have an XP system, you will need to obtain and add bootmgr to the E2B USB drive yourself in order to directly MBR-boot from Win7/8/10 .VHD, VHDX and .WIM files. So just add bootmgr to the \_ISO\e2b\grub\DPMS\NTBOOT.MOD folder of your E2B drive yourself if E2B complains it is missing:

Instructions for adding all the NTBOOT files are in the ReadMe.txt inside the NTBOOT.MOD folder, if you want to try the other NT5 features of NTBOOT.

Tip: at the command console of grub4dos (or in a .mnu file) you can run NTBOOT as follows:

NTBOOT NT6=/_ISO/MAINMENU/Win81x64.VHD NTLDR=/bootmgr

or just type NTBOOT for usage help.

  2. I wrote too fast previously (my joy spoiled ! :D) and jumped on the readme.txt as soon as dl was over, and got the necessary files. I'm gonna try to boot my old PE1 images and play with XP. Thanks for this absolutely wonderfull work. Expect a donation soon.
